The super mario bros. super show!
We see the brother and company use some of the power ups you see in the game to thwart the bad guys like my favorite the fire flower which is so cool seeing Mario shooting fireballs with his fingers.
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. SUPER SHOW! TV
It's true we never see both brother or any other character jump on heads but that was a good thing because, TV show wise that would look stupid and seriously how can anyone really do that. Action is solid nothing wall to wall but it's Mario Bros what do you expect. I even like the music as they actually were able to incorporate some of the music from the video games which fits as it makes you feel you in the world of the game most of the live action video game adaptations should think of doing that. I really like this as it draws and broadens the fantasy world it's based on. The show is of course based on both the first and second game which is why you'll see enemies and even certain areas from both games. The animation is solid, it's not the greatest but it's good enough and fit right as everyone looks like their video game counterparts. It's also funny seeing him get thwarted as well. Like any gangster Lieutenant he cares out Koppas orders any way he can. Another his right-hand man or mouse (literally) Mouser whom sounds like actor Peter Lore. It's just funny how much he wants to give this group grief only to get grief of his own.
He's the archetypal villain that wants to take over the kingdom and rule it the way he wants to but also really want to kill the brothers and the rest of their friends as their the only obstacle in his way.
And the villains are good like Koppa (his name was changed to Bowser, again not sure why), really like that voice which is sort of a rough comical menace. Toad whom is so cute this mushroom man whom is the princess's servant, you can say he's who Alfred is to "Batman", really like how he has sort of this Bronx like accent, despite small he is tough as he doesn't take crap but is fiercely loyal as he protects his princess as best he can. Just like in the game she's really pretty, but I like that she's not some damsel in distress stereotype, she's actually an independent ruler that can hold her own against danger. Even like their supportive team who were from the second game like Princess Toadstool (her name was changed to Peach for some damn reason, really it's not hard to pronounce). Both of course do their jobs which are plumbing and defending the mushroom kingdom from evil. There is a fun back and forth between both you really bought into the brotherly relationship. Both cast members I thought just fit like a glove whenever I play the games, I always imagine their voices, both are the Super Mario Bros you just can't imagine anyone else. Mario is of course voiced by Captain Lou Albino who of course was a former WWF member which is cool since I'm a wrestling fan and I love the WWF. I'll admit I and my friends whenever we watch this show would sometime dance and even try to sing the beats of the song. It's actually strangely catchy as the word and the tone of it is both fun and funny, which fits this show as it doesn't take itself to seriously.
I like the theme song, which is fun, as it's sort of a hip hop version of Super Mario theme. This animated show I wouldn't say is an animated masterpiece, it sets itself to be what it is, just plain turn your brain off fun. When I saw this game got an animated show adaptation I was blown away because it felt like a dream come true.
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. SUPER SHOW! SERIES
I always felt the game could make a cartoon series and that feeling as correct. And I even like the second game which I honestly think is a bit underrated. I was a kid from both the 80s and 90's, the Super Mario Bros games were my big things, as the theme song went I was just hooked on the Bros, from having those designer glasses and even bed sheets, but most importantly the games were just really cool I love the first game and still do as it's one of my favorite video games of all time. This show is another solid animated video game adaptation and another childhood gem of mine.
